2008 Toyota-Sequoia- Overview

The 2008 Toyota Sequoia is a well-known name as far as the full-sized sports utility vehicles are concerned. But apart from all the changes, the models still sport a two-box shape. The new Sequoia models look sleeker due to the elimination of bump strips on the side doors and subtler fender flares. Engine That Promises Powerful Ride

To make the latest models stand apart from the crowd and perfect for all types of road conditions, the manufacturer has come up with two powerful engine configurations. Under the hood, one can find a standard 4.7-liter V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). This engine imparts 273 horsepower and 314 pound-feet of torque. It is mated with a five speed automatic transmission. The optional 5.7 Liter V8 engine gives 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The 5.7 Liter engine is equipped with a six speed automatic transmission. This engine comes standard on the Platinum models and for the SR5 and limited, it is kept as an optional feature.

Spacious Interior

The inside cabin has been designed with utmost care to comfortably accommodate up to eight adult passengers. While the SR5 and Limited models can have eight passengers, the arrangement is for seven adult people in both the Platinum models. To make everyday driving experience a unique one, there are class-leading interior comfort related features inside the spacious cabin. For convenient storage, there are eight extra-large cup holders and eight bottle holders along with a number of other storage spaces, such as a glove box which measures 9.5 liters and the second-row console box for keeping 12 CDs or four DVD cases. With a fold-flat third-row seat that works with the help of a new, independent double-wishbone rear suspension gives ample cargo space.

Entertainment On The Road

To keep the passengers entertained while driving, the models have an improved audio system and optimized speaker placement. The standard entertainment equipment is AM/FM CD player with auxiliary audio jack and eight speakers and as one looks at the higher trims, this system gets more upgraded. For rear passengers, a rear entertainment system is available with a DVD player and nine-inch display. This new-generation navigation system has a new menu screen and an improved dash-mounted seven-inch display.

Safety Equipments

As for safety, the models come equipped with Toyota’s STAR Safety System that comes with 4-wheel ABS, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) and Traction Control, Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Other standard safety equipment includes dual-stage front air bags, front seat-mounted side air bags, 3-row side curtain air bags; roll-sensing curtain air bags, tire-pressure-monitoring system, 3-point seat belts at all seating positions and child-restraint lower anchors and tethers for all second-row seats. The crash test results that are conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have proved that the present line-up is quite a good bargain when one gives importance to the safety factor.
