2008 Toyota Sequoia- Car Review

The 2008 Toyota Sequoia brings with it a name that has been regarded as the model for which Toyota Motors is really proud. With the beginning of the second-generation production line with the latest 2008 models, the manufacturer has given a whole new look to the models. This year, Sequoia comes in three trim levels, base SR5, up-level Limited and the premium range Platinum. Both two-wheel and all-wheel drive traction are available with a reasonable MSRP range of $34,150 to $55,600. This new line-up will surely maintain Toyota's reputation in the market. Both users and car experts do the Toyota Sequoia review.

Exterior Look

The totally restyled line-up sports a new exterior body but in the same two-box shape. This time the models are both larger and tougher as compared to its predecessors. Designed on the all-new Tundra truck platform, the exterior dimensions give tough competition to other vehicles in the same category. The new Sequoia models look sleeker due to the elimination of bump strips on the side doors and subtler fender flares. It looks new from many angles and since its launch in the market; the Sequoia models are creating news.

Interior Cabin

Just like the sleek exterior body, Toyota Motors have given a lot of thought before designing the inside cabin which comfortably accommodates up to eight adult passengers across three wide rows of seats. The cabin is highlighted with class-leading comfort related features. For convenient storage, there are eight extra-large cup holders and eight bottle holders along with a number of other storage spaces. With a fold-flat third-row seat that works with the help of a new, independent double-wishbone rear suspension gives ample cargo space. Moreover, to keep the passengers entertained while driving, the models have an improved audio system and optimized speaker placement.

Space

The new Sequoia models are designed to comfortably tow up to 10,000 pounds and transport eight people, plus a huge number of cargoes. However, a slight decline in the maximum cargo capacity has been noticed as compared to the previous generation. To make it up, the new models come with a fold-flat third-row seat that has been made possible by a new, independent double-wishbone rear suspension. There is already ample cargo room behind the third row and one gets even more when the seat is folded down. Moreover, throughout the cabin there are some eight extra-large cup holders and eight bottle holders and apart from these, the models also have a number of other storage spaces. For instance, the glove box that now measures 9.5 liters and the second-row console box can hold 12 CDs or four DVD cases.

Under the Hood

As far as comfortable ride and performance is concerned, the new Toyota Sequoia will give tough competition to other models in the full-sized SUV category. The Sequoia's base engine is a 4.7-liter V-8 that produces 276 hp and 314 pounds-feet of torque. It drives a five-speed automatic transmission. This engine is itself quite powerful, but still the manufacturer has included the optional 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 381 hp and 401 pounds-feet of torque. This V-8 engine works with a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive Sequoia models get an EPA-estimated at 14 and 17 mpg in the city and on the highway respectively. Meanwhile, the four-wheel-drive models give 13 and 16 mpg respectively.

Safety

It is true that buyers give much importance to the safety attributes of any new vehicle and in a way it is very important keeping in mind the increasing number of accidents that happen on the roads. Toyota has taken care of this factor in its restyled Sequoia line-up. The models are equipped with a number of standard along with optional safety features. Moreover, all the models have Toyota’s STAR Safety System that comes with 4-wheel ABS, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) and Traction Control, Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Full protection to both front, second row and third row passengers is ensured.
Overall, the 2008 Toyota Sequoia models make a better deal when one wants to buy a full-sized sports utility vehicle.
